Doberdream Anthology Vol. 2

I had two dreams this morning.

In the first dream, I was watching a "Tensai Terebikun MAX" anniversary show on TV. For those of you who don't know, Tensai Terebikun MAX is a Japanese variety show that airs daily on NHK. It's a youth-oriented show that's similar to say, the Mickey Mouse Club.

In my dream, the show was celebrating its anniversary...five years...ten years...I couldn't remember. In the show, younger cast members were asked to impersonate older cast members. Chihiro Murata impersonated her friend Nanase Iwai. She even wore Nanase's "trademark" pilot's helmet and goggles.

Nozomi de Lancquesaing impersonated someone whose name had something to do with the number "4". I don't know who that was but apparently Nozomi parodied the name as "(1)x(1)x" as indicated by the screen graphics. That was weird. Also, he pronounced "(1)x(1)x" as "Iki-Iki" for some reason. That was even weirder. But the weirdest part was the fact that "Nozomi de Lancquesaing" looked more like another cast member Vance Yuuki.

Then there was my favorite: Ema Kondou. In a show that was supposed to be an "X" year anniversary of Tensai Terebikun Max, Ema looked very, very young. In fact, she resembled TTM newcomer Melody Chubbuck. On top of that, she was blonde in my dream (Ema has brown hair). She also wore glasses (which she'd do during "newscasts") and a green smock. I miss Ema.

In my second dream, I was wandering around the streets of Quiapo one early evening. It was 6:00 P.M. and I had two hours to play hookey. It was then that I spied a "dollar theater" that was playing "Independence Day". I haven't seen "Independence Day" in a theater since 1996 so called up my parents saying I'll be watching a movie and will be coming home late.

But as I got to the theater I was surprised to see my father there. He asked me if I was still going to watch ID4 and I said "yes". So I went insaide the theater and I was rather surprised to see a sizable crowd inside. I then proceeded to the front row seats. I always sit in the front row everytime I see a movie in a theater.

The odd thing was, as we waited for the movie to start, we were entertained by some sort of local documentary. Apparently, the sound from the documentary was coming from a TV set above and in front of me. I looked front and I found myself in front of a...bookstore? (?!?)

Movie dreams

I had three dreams this morning. But I couldn’t remember the third one so here are the first two:

I was watching “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” yesterday and I was surprised to learn that the guys who wrote the script for the movie were Cormac and Marianne Wibberley. They were the same ones who wrote the script for “National Treasure” (erroneously attributed to “Pirates” scribes Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot). You might not notice the connection until you hear Cameron Diaz going on about clues referring to a place on the Hollywood strip where gangsters were supposed to meet. Her line which includes words like "star" and "galaxy" is similar to Nicholas Cage’s “The secret lies with Charlotte” line in “National Treasure”.

Anyway, in my dream we were following clues leading to some secret treasure. Besides, “me”, I don’t remember who the rest of the “we” were. We were in this dingy corner of a rundown alley of a slum district where we were supposed to be looking for writings on a wall. It was then that I found myself staring at this concrete wall and for some reason; that was where I imagined the writings were supposed to be (hidden by paint, I presumed). I walked over to the wall and began rubbing the paint off and…sure enough, there was writing underneath.

My next dream is kind of embarrassing. In it, I was a Jedi Knight. That’s not the embarrassing part. I'm a huge Star Wars fan and if someone asked me what my religion was, I’d mark myself down as a Jedi straight away. No. The embarrassing part is while I dreamt of myself as a Jedi, I dreamt of myself as the worst Jedi in the galaxy.

In my dream, I was a Jedi…and I’d done something really, really stupid…and really, really catastrophic. I don’t remember what it was but…well, imagine Jar Jar as a Jedi Knight and you’ll probably get an idea. For better or worse, the Jedi Council ordered me to undergo “basic training” all over again. But what I found really odd was that the “manual” they gave me was written backwards! On the one hand, you’d think they’d make it easier for me the second time by giving me a manual that’s written in simple Galactic Basic. On the other hand, the manual might have been written by Yoda…which would explain a lot.

I did this cartoon for my Deviant Art page a couple of weeks ago. Right now, it seems eerily prophetic.

Update: 'Just saw the "National Treasure 2" trailer. Everybody's got a new look though I wonder what's up with Nicholas Cage's hair. Also, Cormac and Marianne Wibberley are collectively listed in the credits as "The Wibberleys".

More updates: 'Just saw the trailer for "Clone Wars 2". Suh-weet!

Trips

Back in the old days, I'd go out on the weekends and hang out in malls. Usually I'd go to far off malls like SM Megamall in Mandaluyong or Virra Mall in Greenhills. The trip to these malls would take about an hour or so by bus or jeepney.

Naturally, I'd dream about going to malls too. But the route that I'd take to these malls is fairly confusing. And the malls in my dreams look nothing like the malls I'd go to in real life. Some are upscale (like Shangri-la) and some are downscale (like Tutuban) and some are a mixture of both (like Glioretta and Goldcrest respectively).

There was one notable dream I had many years ago where I was on a bus and I was on a long trip. I don't know where I was supposed to be going or how I was supposed to get there. And that got me worried a bit. Eventually that happened to me in real life.

It was two years ago and it was my birthday. The entire family had lunch at Glorietta and after that, I went off on my lonesome to go galavanting about town. I'd heard that Anne Curtis (see below) was going to be at a show in SM Bicutan. But although I'd heard of Bicutan, I didn't for the life of me know where it was. So I went to a bus terminal along EDSA and as it happened, there were buses going to Bicutan there. I hoppped on one of those buses, paid my fare and asked the ticket guy to drop me off at Bicutan.

I was expecting the trip to take an hour or two...maybe longer. To my surprise, the trip took all of five...minutes. Imagine my relief and embarrassment.

In my dream this morning, I was at a mall (probably in Makati). For some reason I remember leaving my backpack in a plantbox outside the mall. I don't know why. I met my brother inside the mall and together, we took a ride home in the family car.

It was then that I remembered my backpack and I asked my brother to turn back so I can retrieve it. When we got to the plantbox, I was shocked to see that the backpack was nowhere to be found. My brother asked me where my bag was. To my embarrassment, I found the bag in front of me...right on my lap. Again, imagine my relief and embarrassment.

My other dream this morning was very weird. In it, we were still living in good ol' 1306 Jose F. Nieto Paco. Manila (which has since been demolished to make way for a new apartment building that was never built). All was quiet until we heard panic in the streets. People outside were screaming "Lock the doors!!! They're here!!!" I wondered what the fuss was all about until I took a peek outside and suddenly, there was this mysterious old man at the door. At that point, I tried to close the door but the old man was a lot more powerful that he looked and we wrestled with the door.

I later learned that the "they" the people were referring to were actually old guys who just wanted a ride home (to where I don't know). I didn't know how many there were but there must have been about a hundred of them to cause a panic like that. (Upon waking, I remarked that they were like a swarm of locusts.) That said, the dream was still weird. A lot of questions came to mind...like: Who were the old guys? What were they doing in Nieto Street? Why were there so many of them? Why were the neighbors panicking? Why didn't they just volunteer to take the old guys home? And last but not the least, why did I get the feeling that that wasn't the first time it happened?

Angel Locsin

Anne Curtis (mentioned below) currently appears in TV ads for GSM Blue. In my dream this mornng, I saw Filipina actress Angel Locsin in a similar ad. Actually, there were TV two ads: a solo ad and an ad where she is paired with an actor.

This dream was probably inspired by Anne Curtis' own GSM Blue TV ad and Angel Locsin's San Mig Coffee ad where she is paired with Filipino actor Piolo Pascual. I saw both ads last night while watching a dart tournament on TV.

Anne Curtis

I dreamt about Filipina-Australian actress Anne Curtis two years ago. And this is what the dream looked like. (Anne Curtis is the one on the right.)

This photo was taken just this month during Anne Curtis' recent vacation in the U.S.

Aliens at EPCOT (Part 2)

Well...not exactly. In my latest dream, I'm confronted by a trio of roaches in the dining room. After driving them away, I'm confronted by another roach.

My mistake. As it turned out, it wasn't a roach at all. It looked more like a giant praying mantis or something. And as if that wasn't enough, the mantis thingie was actually siting on top of a giant insect creature that looked like a cross between a worm and a scorpion. Euwgh!

Note: This dream has nothing to do with the fact that "Spiderman 3" broke the opening-day record set by "Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest" last year. I haven't even seen Spiderman 3 yet.

Aliens at EPCOT

First; two things:

1. I am an alien as are dad and bro. But we didn't come from another planet or anything.
2. I've been to Disneyland back in 1992. But I've never beeen to EPCOT.

In my dream, our family looks normal. But I have this sneaking suspicion that we may have extra-terrestrial connections. In one scene, I was standing on a sidewalk and there was little girl standing next to me. Suddenly, this flying saucer decked with marquee lights began hovering in front of us. I don't know how the little girl reacted to it but my reaction wasn't one of shock. I seemed amused by the whole thing as I remember chuckling at the sight of the flying saucer.

In the next scene, I was at home rummaging for a magazine in the bedroom. The bedroom was kind of dirty as there were a lot of dead insects lying around. There were some live ones too...they looked like giant maggots or something. I got myself a can of Raid and when I used it on the insects, they were instantly crushed. The Raid must have been an industrial-strength version that's not available yet. But crushing insects isn't all it's capable of doing. I used it on some other insects and they began mutating into some sort of miniature monsters. They I accidentally sprayed some on an old camera and lo and behold...the lens mutated into some sort of spider-creature.

I don't know what happened after that but the next scene was that of the entire family at the Ayala Commercial Center. At least it looked like the Ayala Commercial Center the way it was back in the 1970s...except that one of the buildings was the EPCOT Center! As if that wasn't enough, as we were waiting for the "EPCOT" to open, a flying saucer came by and dropped a second "EPCOT" next to the first. At the time, there weren't that many people at the ACC. But one had to wonder how they would react to the whole thing. Me? I chuckled...again.

As we were waiting, I gave the EPCOT Centers the once-over. For buildings that were dropped out of the sky by aliens, they looked fairly old and worn. I was particularly drawn to the drainage pipes near the entrance that were yellowing and rusty. At that point, I gave mom my camera and keys. Shortly, "EPCOT" was open and bro rushed to get inside. He was coughing and I thought it had something to do with the bug spray I used earlier. Mom asked for the keys and I told her I gave it to her. Sure enough, we found the keys are attached to her purse.

I think it was at that time that I woke up to find the TV tuned in to Nickelodeon where I saw a prototype version of "Fairly Odd Parents". There was also "Doodlez"...in color. It looked like an episode of "Invader Zim" what with the huge space battleships. At this point, I thought I might still be dreaming. But no.

Exam "her"

Did you ever have one of those dreams where you missed an exam? That happened to me quite a lot back in the old days. And considering that scene in the movie "Top Secret!", that must happen to a lot of other people as well. In fact, in my dream it's like I was going to a different school every time.

The thing is, I actually missed a math exam back in college. But I dreamt about missing exams after I graduated. And to this day, I still feel like I should be submitting some sort of architectural homework to finish my course.

Anyway, in my dream this morning, I dreamt that I was actually able to take the exam. That's the goood news. The bad news was that I didn't know the answers to the exam questions. The exam was like a pop quiz enumeration thing and it looks something like this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0449088/board/thread/73132996?p=3&d=73174442#73174442 that I posted just yesterday.

I'm thinking the reason why my mind was blank during the exam was that I saw "her" in my dream. Well...not "her" exactly. Actually, it was a picture of "her" on the cover of the "Philippine Star Ngayon" tabloid. Who "her"? I'd rather not say. She's a well-known actress here in the Philippines. But to me, she is "the-one-who-shall-not-be-named". (As a clue, her name is similar to a "T" in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest". And I don't mean "Tia Dalma".) The sight of her proved to be distracting and whatever it was I learned the "previous day", I'd completely forgotten during the exam.

The funny thing about that dream was...as I was flubbing the exam, I thought to myself, "What the heck, I could probably take the exam all over again". Then I thought, "Ah, who cares? This is probably just one of those 'I-missed-an-exam' dreams and I'll wake up realizing that I no longer go to school". Weird.

UPDATE: As I wrote this (May 2, 2007), I checked the "Philippine Star Ngayon" website and saw that while "her" picture wasn't on the cover (It was KC Concepcion's), "her" name was. Creepy.
