One for the X-Files

This year, Nicole Kidman will star in a remake of the 1956 sci-fi classic "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". My dream is a variation of the movie.

It all began when a team of paranormal invastigators led by a guy who looks like Donal Logue who, coincidentally, I first saw in the X-Files episode "Squeeze". (He later starred in the sitcom "Grounded for Life" and appeared as Nicholas Cage's sidekick in the recent "Ghost Rider".)

As with my previous dream (see below), I don't know if I was watching said investigation on the TV or if I was part of the aciton. All I know is Donal Logie and company were suppposed to be investigating this house (in the Philippines...possibly Makati City) that was suppposed to be haunted. It was about four stories tall and supposedly the lights would eerily go on and off by themselves. (I remember running up and down the stairs and the lights would go on and off everytime "we" reach the stair landing).

Apparently, the "haunted house" was inhabited by five homeless street children. But things were not what they seem. Those "street children" were actually shape-shifting extraterrestrials. In their true form, they look like Zetas (the so-called "greys from Zeta Reticuli"). Like the Ferengi in Star Trek, they're also egotistical and vicious.

But eventually, the aliens were defeated (I don't remeber how) and they were forced to hide among the general populace in their "street urchin" form living among the poor folk. They even put up this innocent waif-like appearance but still, I couldn't help wanting to hit them on the back of the head (and none too gently) knowing what they really are and what they're really capable of doing.

The dream ended as I found myself at a newstand looking over two issues of "Funny Komiks" (now-defunct). One had a local version of anime Mazinger Z and the other had a local version of the anime NG Knight Lamune & 40 on the cover...which I think is both appropriate and ironic given the circumstances.

Dreaming a book

A few years ago, I read "Badge of Evil", a 1950s crime novel that became the basis for the classic film noir movie "Touch of Evil" by Orson Welles. Shortly after finishing the novel, I posted a summary on my Entertainment USA blog and even contributed the summary as an article to Wikipedia.

Anyway, my latest dream is very similar to "Badge of Evil". It's like an updated version of a 1950s movie that's based on a crime novel. That story in my dream has a cop investigating the death of another cop who had died half a century ago. The story seems to revolve around the testimony of the dead cop's partner (a Mexican cop who for some reason looks like Ron Jeremy) recounting their last case.

That last case was a drug bust at a gangster's house. Now, I know I wasn't part of the story. My dream is supposed to be a movie after all. So I found it odd to see myself (first-person perspective) crouching in the backseat of a getaway car as the Mexican cop is pulling the car out of the gangster's garage and the "dead cop" is riding shotgun...literally. It's like reverse meta-fiction.

The dream ends inconclusively as I'm "awakened" by the sounds of dogs barking. I go downstairs to find Mom feeding three dogs by putting food in a plastic vat. (One of the dogs got too greedy and pulled the vat away from the other two.)

It was after that scene that I REALLY wake up to find that the barking dog actually came from the neighbor's house behind me. (In my dream, we were supposed to be still living in good ol' 1306 Nieto St. which was demolished to make way for a new apartment building.)

Movin' on out, movin' on in

Over the nearly four decades of my existence, I've lived in about six domiciles. The first was in Yokohama, Japan where I was born and the rest were here in the Philippines. We lived in a house in 1306 Jose F. Nieto St. Paco, Manila for about 24 years and moving mania came about in 1995 where we moved into 5 different houses in as many years. We've been living in our current address for seven years now.

In my dream, we were about to move into another house. From what I can remember, the house looks to be located in Makati...a city adjoining the Paco, Manila district. For some reason, the "place under the bridge" motif was back (see "You're NOT in the army now" entry).

But before we can move in, we had to live in a "halfway" house. In 1998, before we moved into a house in Cuevas St...also in Paco...we temporaily lived in a pension house near Taft Avenue. But the pension house in my dream looked more like that flophouse in the movie "The Pursuit of Happyness" where Chris Gardner and his son stayed the night. And as with Chris and his son, we had to share the room with a bunch of other people.

Doberdream Anthology vol. 1

I've had three dreams last night and this morning. And if you think that's weird, wait 'til you hear what those dreams were.

In the first dream, I was a member of a submarine crew. The sub was sinking and the only way out was through the torpedo tube...or something that looked like it. The trouble was, the "torpedo tube" was flooded.

This is similar to a dream I had last year where me and two other guys were on the top floor of a building and we had to get from one side to the other through a drainage pipe (???) which itself was flooded.

The second dream supposedly took place at my grandparents' home in Quezon City here in the Philippines. Curiously, there was a photo session going on...in the bathroom, of all places. It's nothing cheap or kinky. In fact, the photo session is similar to Annie Leibovitz' photo of Whoopi Goldberg in a bathtub filled with milk. I won't mention who the model is (she's an American actress and my first choice to play "Virginia West") and she was wearing a black negligee (and seeing it in the water made me gag for some reason). No milk was used in photographing that model.

The third dream was more prosaic...but no less weird. Quoth Nick Rivers: "I'm back in school! Oh no, I can't believe it! I'm back in school!" Thankfully, it doesn't seem to be that I was enrolled that time. Anyway, I was standing inside a waiting shed and it was raining. I was trying to hail a jeepney but there wasn't any that was going my way. I finally decided to flag down a taxi cab and I was on my way to my destination (I forgot where). But along the way, the cab stopped and I was forced to alight said taxi cab. I was even forced to pay the cabbie more that I was supposed to. Bummer.

You're NOT in the army now.

Nope. But I did take military training of some sort back in high school and college.

In this dream, I was hanging out in a park somewhere. It looked for all the world like Plaza Lawton because of the overhead bridge. It was early evening when this limo pulled up and from it emerged what looked like a wedding entourage. I remembered being thrilled about it short of saying, "Oh, I love weddings! Drinks all around!"

The groom and possibly the bride were probably military officers because the entourage wore formal military uniforms. They also had various military regalia decorating the park where I was. Under the bridge, there was a makeshift shrine. I remember walking up to the shrine out of curiosity. I was embarrassed to find out that the shrine was guarded by a soldier. I gave the shrine a quick salute and marched off as quickly as I could.

I saluted with my right arm but I remember one of the officers saluting wth his left and I wondered if that was permissible under military rules.

Dragons

I was fourteen years old when I last dreamt about dragons. It was 1982 and that was when the movie "Q" came about. "Q" stands for "Quetzalcoatl" an Aztec god . Stephen Colbert once mentioned him in The Daily Show's "This Week in God" segment.

Here in the Philippines, "Q" was released under the title, "The Winged Serpent"...which Quetzalcoatl is. I never saw the movie itself...only the trailer. But I must have been freaked out by it.

In this dream, I remember finding some sort of scaly hide that might have belonged to some animal. I put the hide in the fridge. Why I don't know. I go outside from a while when all of a sudden, a dragon bursts through the roof of our house.

The scene of the dragon spreading his wings in the sky is similar to the scene in 1989 when I saw a prehistoric jet figter over our house strafing MalacaƱang Palace with bullets...and this wasn't a dream.

So anyway, I run to my uncle's house (three houses down) and as soon as I get to the door, the dragon swoops down on me. But before it drops down, it transforms into...get this...a human-sized Chinese ninja! Yes. The letters "WTF" comes to mind.

In my recent dream, I was at a convention out of town. It was night and I was in a hotel building a couple of stories up overlooking a forest. I remember going back and forth to the convention, when suddenly, the forest catches fire. The rest of the convention attendees ignore this and the evening proceeds uneventfully...save for the forest fire.

When the convention ends, I found myself in the crowded corridor looking at the forest fire. All of a sudden, I realize why it was on fire...as a flock of dragons flew out of the forest towards the hotel!

And then, I woke up.

The New Prince

And I don't mean the Purple One (I loved his rendition of the Foo Fighter's "The Best of You" at Superbowl XLI). I meant the Prince of England. Me. I was being groomed to be a replacement royalty. Weird.

I dreamt this the same morning I'd dreamt of Rhian Denise Ramos (see below). I don't know if there's a connection. That said, I don't believe I have even an ounce of British blood in me. I'm a Japan-born Filipino-American of Chinese, Spanish and possibly Italian ancestry. I've never dreamt of being a prince either. I see myself as a "Lone Wolf McQuade" type. I don't really fancy being a prince...unless the title comes with a lot of moolah.

But there I was in Britian (I've never been to Britain, by the way). I was on the third floor of a building overlooking some sort of large British estate. And I've got these guys trying to teach me how to act like royalty (sort of like that movie "King Ralph" which I hadn't seen since the last millenium).

Curiously, one of those guys was...well, I'm not going to mention his name. I've embarrassed myself enough as it is I don't want to embarrass him too. Let's just say he's a relatively young actor who plays a knight in Star Wars.

So, anyway, after being briefed by OB1 and the secret service guys, I was given documents...presumably written by the guy whom I was supposed to be replacing. One of those documents was a list of people he admired and would like to meet. I noticed two familiar names on the list and I remember being thrilled that I might able to meet them in person at last! After all, I'm a huge fan of theirs...tee-hee! But OB1 crosses out they're names. Bummer!

Then it's Q&A time. OB1 asks me questions that the British press might bring up. He asks me a hypothetical question about my girlfriend. I forgot what the question was butI remember giving him an offhand answer. In response, OB1 screams "WHAT?!!!" I then change my answer to a more regal, "Why, no. Of course not." Like I said...weird.

I dreamt all this before it was announced that Britain's Prince Harry signed up to join the British Army in Iraq. Although I'm not British, I hope my dream isn't a bad omen and I hope nothing bad happens to the guy.

Rhian Denise Ramos

In this dream, I was sitting on a bench at night in front of our house. All of a sudden, I saw Filipino-British actress Rhian Denise Ramos emerge from an alley next to our house.

I'd earlier dreamt of Rhian last year...that I saw her on TV in a movie that was supposed to star Tommy Lee Jones. In that dream she was in a restaurant of some sort wearing a red dress.

I don't remember what she was wearing in this dream. All I remember is she seemed to be looking for something. She was about to enter our house but she stopped by the entrance. I remember calling out to her...telling her, "No, go right ahead."

I don't remeber what happened next but I do remember that she was looking for her bag. It was a white ladies' bag and I think I even got to see what's inside.

I don't know why I've dreamt of Rhian Denise Ramos twice. But becuase of that, I decided to put up a picture of her in my desktop wallpaper. That wallpaper is available at the iGMA website.

Welcome to my, uh...dreams!

I set up this blog because over the past couple of weeks I've been having these vivid dreams. They're weird...but no more than usual.

My dreams are usually of the familiar yet different variety. They're familiar in the sense that the settings are fairly recognizable....such as SM Makati and even our house. But I tend to dream about them in ways I've never seen them before. After all, SM Makati isn't made of red bricks. And our house hardly ever looks the same way twice. (Although recently, it does.)

Anyway, I've been having a lot of these kinds of dreams lately. Here are my four most recent dreams:
